Section - A - Why hire DJ-Jeff, "1 Awesome DJ"?

A-1 Why should I hire you and not someone else?
My Response: Passion. That's the difference. I have the passion. Passion is the driving force in any chosen arena of endeavor in which one strives for excellence. Other than you, no one cares more about the success of your event more than me. This is a "Labor of love" & "An Art" to me. My attention to detail is unsurpassed. And, I offer more than any DJ out there.

A-2 What makes your talents and services unique?
My Response: SEVERAL THINGS! make me extremely flexible & unique.
I) Prior Experience! Guitarist,
Vocalist, Dance Teacher and Banquet Supervisor for Hilton Hotels.
II) I provide absolute proof of my talents and services. Just look at my Video Demo.
III) Since 1986, I've spent countless hours adding on more to the buffet of services I offer. And, I still add more.
IV) You'll receive a free consultation. I leave no stone unturned. It's more complete than any other DJ, period.
V) The flexibility in my style can range from formal to festively interactive. I cater to the client & I fully explain this during your consultation. I develop an itinerary for each event. The Client's choices are included.
VI) More than just music: You can choose from 80 different icebreaker games, wedding games and dance lessons. Remember it's your choice! I fully explain your options during your first consultation. It's up to you to pick one or not.
VII) When I say I host the event it's more complex than you would think - This is fully explained during your free consultation. Use of my abilities and talents is established in writing before your event. Your choices will be honored.
VIII) I have invested ("FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CLIENT"). I sit at the top of the pyramid. Very few DJ's need to be insured for over $60,000.00 if replacement needs to occur. This represents what I do for most weddings.
IX) I carry an emergency kit, so complete, that it has received attention from the media without paying a dime. To read the article Just click here.
Check out my Video Demo(DVD). Click here.

A-3 Will you give me a free consultation so I can explain what I want, & Ask you questions?
My Response:
Yes, a free consultation is part of my services. I take the time to ascertain your goals and expectations. You'll be able to see my Video Demo(DVD) to see exactly what I can provide. Tons of flexibility! - If you know exactly what you want, let's put it into writing so we can all relax. - Most of my clients need suggestions. Most find that I can be a great resource of suggestions. - All events go through a specialized process to make sure all details are well planned and communicated. - If you don't have one, I provide a written itinerary or guideline. I also have specialized checklists.

A-4 Do you have the skills to deliver announcements that are clear and direct?
Do you have any public speaking experience outside of disc jockey work?
Do you have any speech and/or vocal training?
Are your announcements direct and to the point?
Commentary -
The person you choose as your Disc Jockey will be your spokesperson representing You! to your guests. Choose wisely. Have you ever seen someone try to get a crowd's attention without the proper vocal skills? Or when they do open their mouths, they don't know what to say?. Words like "uh" and "um" get used too much and then your guests are left asking each other, "What did he just say?" Then I need not say more.
My Response: Yes, I have vocal training and public speaking in my background dating back to 1974.

A-5 Will you Host, M.C. & Coordinate my event?
My Response: Whether the Disc Jockey wants to coordinate or not, when things go wrong at an event, he is the first person everybody looks to for direction, answers, and sometimes for someone to blame. I believe that Disc Jockeys already have the responsibility, so they should act accordingly. When I'm involved with an event no stone is unturned. I have an itinerary and check lists to make sure everything is well focused, timed and properly presented.
Photographers, Videographers, Caterers, Etc, notice that I take the initiative in getting things done and I am a valuable teammate in accomplishing the goals and needs of my clients. I have definite skills and techniques that "make" your event happen. That's a promise! Check my references

A-6 Will you coordinate "with" the photographer and the other professionals I have hired?
My Response:
If you would like, sure. Remember, whomever you have, it is best to make sure that person is not only willing to take on the responsibility, but, is also is up to the task. You paid me to worry and handle the stress. Most of my clients want me to take the leading role in facilitating, hosting and coordinating their event.

A-7
I need ceremony music as well. Is this something you can provide?
My Response:
Yes. I can provide sound/music for your ceremony.
Also check out my sampler. CLICK HERE

A-8 I want my guests to hear my wedding vows. Can you provide microphones? Sound system?
My Response:
Yes. I provide 2 lapel microphones. One for the groom, one for the officiate. The bride's voice is capture by these two as well. Yes. I can also provide a microphone for poets, vocalists, and readers. ADDITIONALLY - I record them on Mini-Disc (Like CD quality).
For more information CLICK HERE.

A-9 Why are you a sole operator?
My Response:
I want to offer more to my clients and working for a large company does not allow that. I also enjoy the challenge, and the freedom it brings, to be a part of every aspect of my business.

A-10 Can I see you perform live?
My Response: I believe it's in the best interests of the client and DJ professionalism to not allow uninvited guests at private events.
There are three separate issues to address here.

I) Seeing me perform live could be very deceiving. What the client of any event requested me to do could be objectionable to you. What was very successful for "them" may not meet "your" taste or standards.
II) Would you be impressed if I wanted to invite people (I have never met) to check me out while entertaining your event? What if they went to the bar on your tab? What if they went to the buffet and filled up a plate? - These circumstances happened to me many years ago. It was embarrassing for me to ask them to leave. Worst of all, a former wedding professional told me that this was staged by the "XYZ DJ Company" as a cruel joke.
II) Would you want your DJ to be talking time away from your event in order to sell himself to people you don't know?
Finally - My Video Demo(DVD) eliminates all possible issues. The Video is composed of the following ingredients:
- Clients gave 60% of the video footage to me.
- 30% of the footage I personally filmed during events.
- 10% of the footage was filmed by a video professional I hired for one event.
You'll get a clear and untainted view of my talent, personality, services and what I give to my clientele. You'll see results of how I bring hundreds of people to their feet!
You may also ask for references (with phone numbers) from recent events.

A-11
Can you provide advice as to how I should structure my wedding reception?
My Response:
Sure! If there is anything I have learned, it is that someone has to keep the ball rolling. Because there is so much going on, I recommend that a person be selected in advance. Brides and grooms should concentrate on celebrating! You paid me to handle the coordinating, Hosting and M.C. duties so go ahead and have fun! This service is included in my entertainment package.

A-12 How long have you been in business?
My Response:
I have served the San Francisco Bay Area (And beyond) since 1986 as a career "Full Time" DJ Entertainer.

Section - B - How to Value a DJ.

B-1 How does your price compare to others?
MY COMMENTARY: Anybody can be a DJ, but only a few can do it well. That's why you won't be the DJ at your own event.
Buyers beware! There is no definition, degree or certification to be a DJ. That's why the DJ market is flooded. I often hear of DJ's that have lowered their rates to the same price they were charging in 1996 or even 1986. These DJ's will take any gig they can get at any price. Some people are either stupid enough or dumb enough to think they can get a "quality DJ" for only $400.00 to $600.00.
FINAL ANSWER
: Most likely you won't know how to look for a "quality DJ" until you educate yourself about what I offer in "services" & "unexpected extra services" and then have the ability to compare this to the offerings of other DJs and large companies.
Print out my DJ comparison sheet. Click here.
Check out an article I wrote, "How to Hire a DJ".
BOTTOM LINE: It is wise to educate yourself. Meet at least 3-4 DJ's. One of my clients met 16 DJ's before she hired me. Remember, your DJ will "make" OR "break" your event!

B-2 I have been visiting many websites offering disc jockey services. Why do the prices vary? My Response: Good question. Much depends on their overhead, areas of expertise, creative flair, extra services, labor costs, and their specific niches they cultivate. Another key question that goes along with this is "Are they part time or F/T Career DJ's"? This creates a dilemma for the client. How do can I tell the difference? This is the most common problem in the Disc Jockey industry. There are numerous Disc Jockeys who are billing themselves as "professionals" while they are working full-time in some other field. LET'S FACE THE FACTS HERE:Either they are not good enough to make a DJing their "career" or they probably don't have to care about doing an outstanding job, because they still have their regular job to fall back on.

Check out my references from event professionals. Just click here. Before you hire a DJ educate yourself !!!!!!!!!!!

B-3 Are your prices reasonable? Am I getting a fair value for my dollar?
Commentary ) Most people say that the entertainment and food are the two most important parts of a great party. Eating lasts 20 minutes. The dancing lasts 3 to 5 hours. People forget about the food in just a few days. Most will never forget how you made them feel for 3 - 5 hours!
- You depend the entertainment for a vast majority of the event.
Why do some events spend more on "the appetizers" or "the cake" than "the entertainment"? At a typical wedding of, say, 150 guests, the cost for food and beverage is often $30.00 to $100.00 per person.
My DJ services only cost about $6.00 to $8.00 per person.
FINALLY - MY Response: My prices are more than reasonable. Actually they're a bargain.

Check out my Video Demo. Find out for yourself why 98% of my visitors hire me. Click here.

B-4 The location (Hall, Winery or Country Club) keeps pushing the house disc jockey. I want to pick my own. What should I do?
MY Response: Be very skeptical of this sales tactics.
Almost every referral from these types of locations are based up on 2 reasons:
A) Fee's or gifts paid by the DJ to the location.
B) The DJ is a "Old friend", "Business associate" or "Perferred vendor".
- - - These "Reasons" to refer certain DJ's could prevent you from having the DJ - which would best benefit you.

COMMENTARY: Remind the hall owner that you live in America, and that America is about freedom of choice! It's your money, and there are plenty of establishments in need of your business. Be firm. Some places may try to throw in the house DJ as part of a "package," to sweeten the deal. Keep in mind that he hall and the house DJ have a prearranged understanding and profit margin with location. Packages are only a good deal if the sum of all of the parts is to your liking - and your budget.

And, like I said before. It is wise to educate yourself. Meet at least 3-4 DJ's. All ask is that you check out my Video Demo(DVD). Click here.

B-5 Are you affiliated with any disc jockey service or company?
MY Response:
No. I call the shots. This way my creativity is not limited. I am free to keep adding on to what I can offer my clients. I want to offer more to my clients and working for a large company or affiliation is stifling to me. Also, I enjoy the challenge, and the freedom it brings, to be a part of every aspect of my business. On a personal level, "Being good is NOT good enough for me". I want my job to be enjoyable and stress free. So, being self employed is a great way for me to steer clear from the political B.S. within my industry. I respect what they do "in the name of providing affordable services", but I prefer to be on my own.

Section -C - Services & Talents

C-1 Are you familiar with the pitfalls which may make my event less than successful?
MY Response: You bet! Each event has its own personality. I have a pretty good idea as to what works, and what doesn't. I cover more information during our consultation.

C-2 If I make last minute changes concerning my affair or reception. Is that a problem? MY Response: Never. Just let me know what you want.

C-3 I have special circumstances regarding my event. Is that a problem?
MY Response: No. Just let me know in advance, if possible.

C-4 Will my attire be appropriate for your event?
MY Response: Yes, Normally I wear a tux or a suit. It's your choice. I should be dressed professionally at all times. I can offer more if your interested. My wardrobe includes everything from a tuxedo's, suites, and costumes. If you would like, you can choose what I wear to your event. I'm willing to dress for special theme. Remember, I will be representing You at your event.

C-5 What type of music do you play?
MY Response: DJ-Jeff specializes in creating the perfect mood and ambiance by playing the appropriate music tailored to each event. I specialize in music that captures the ambiance of fun, festive & positive. THIS INCLUDES: Top 40, Classic Rock, Modern Rock, R&B, Oldies/Motown, Funk, Disco, Dance/Club, Hip hop/rap(clean versions only), Old School, Lounge, New Wave, World, Show tunes, Holiday songs, Game tunes, Children's songs, Show tunes, Country, Line Dances, Jazz Classics, Ballroom, Big Band, Ethnic, ETC.

C-6 Do you take requests?
MY Response: During my first consultation with you I will leave a song list (for you to look at) & a song request form (for you to fill out). I can take them on the spot too. Please keep in mind that a song request should flow with the music being played and the mood that's been established. - For example, Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" is a great song to hear on your radio, but would clear the dance floor quickly if played right after "Play that Funky music" or a disco song. Smooth segues are important!

C-7 If I want a song you don't have, can I bring mine?
MY Response:
Yes, and I will make sure that it fits in at just the right time so that it becomes part of your library of memories on your wedding day or event.

C-8 Some of the new songs today have objectionable lyrics. Do you play them?
MY Response: People hire me to create an atmosphere that is "Positive", "Friendly", "Inviting", "Exciting" and "Memorable". So, my policy is to obtain the "clean" copies if possible. If I can't I try not to play them at all.

C-9 Do you provide references?
MY Response: To protect my clients' privacy, some have agreed in advance to contact you. Some have agreed to receive calls.

You can also check out some of my past client thank you letters. Just click here.
And you can print out my DJ comparison sheet - CLICK HERE.

C-10 When I contact you to make changes or get advise how quickly do you respond?
MY Response: Usually within 24 hours or less. I am available via e-mail or telephone. (Remember! I am a busy DJ and weekends are the start of my workweek. It's not unusual for me to be unavialable Friday till Tuesday. Don't be impatient. My only day off is often Monday)

C-11 How do you feel about customer service?
MY Response: This is a business about customer service! Little else counts! Of course, you have to be good at what you do too. There are thousands of disc jockeys and disc jockey services out there. Relationships are built one client at a time. When you contract with me, you are guaranteed personal, professional customer service because you are dealing directly with the top dog - me.

C-12 I have been at affairs where the disc jockey played the music too loud and people were complaining. What are your thoughts?
A) This has three parts.

I) This a common mistake by amateur DJ's. My rule of thumb is that if I can't hear people talking during dinner, the music is too loud.
Remember, It would be mindful not to locate tables too close to the speakers.
People sitting 5 feet from a speaker want it turned down, while at the same time, people on the dance floor want it turned up! There is no way any body can be happy in this situation. A definite loose/ loose / loose situation.
II) Additionally, I have gone great lengths to make sure that I have a clean sound system that does not distort. Sometimes people confuse loud with distortion. Believe me, "loud" does not have to hurt your ears.

MY Response: DJ-Jeff entertains and performs in following counties:
Contra Costa County (CCC), Solano County, Napa County, Sonoma County, Marin County, San Francisco County, San Mateo County, Santa Cruz County, Monterey County, Alameda County, Santa Clara County, Sacramento County, Yolo County, Lake County, Mendocino County, Placer County, Calaveras County, Tuolumne County, Shasta County, San Louis Obispo County. DJJeff can also travel to other parts of California.
He also travels outside of California to other states too.

AND IN THE FOLLOWING CITIES:Discovery Bay, Oakley, Brentwood, Byron, Antioch, Pittsburg, Concord, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Alamo, Danville, San Ramon, Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, Hayward, Union City, Fremont, San Lorenzo, San Leandro, Alameda, Oakland, Piedmont, Kensington, Berkeley, Orinda, Moraga, Lafayette, Lamorinda, Emeryville, Albany, Kensington, Richmond, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Herclules, Crocket, Martinez, Benicia, Vallejo, Suisun City, Fairfield, Vacaville, American Canyon, Napa, Novato, Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Marinwood, San Rafael, Marin, San Francisco, Daily City, San Bruno, Milbrae, Burlingame, Belmont, Redwood City, Palo Alto, Mountain view, Los Gatos, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, San Jose, Saratoga, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Asilomar, ETC. (Basically the whole S.F. Bay Area and Beyond).

D-2 Is there anything I need to supply you before the event starts?
MY Response:.
THREE THINGS
1) An electrical outlet. Trouble free & 120Volts A.C.
2) A space adjacent to the dance floor. 10 Feet wide & 7 feet deep.
3) Oh Yeah, And people that might want to dance.

D-3 Are you by yourself when you perform?
MY Response:
Most of the time, yes. I will, from time to time, have someone with me to assist if the event is huge or complicated. You'll be notified if I do.

D-4 Do you share client names with anyone else or related services?
MY Response:
Never. You will NEVER be marketed as a result of my association with you. That would be a breach of trust and confidentiality.

D-5 If for some unforeseen reason you could not be present at my affair, what would happen?
MY Response:
I have, over time, established relationships with those in the business whom I would hire if I were hosting an event. Though the likelihood of my not being available is remote, coverage would be arranged at the contracted rate.

D-6 Do you have any pet peeves in your line of work?
MY Response:
Not many! Though there are a couple. Guests who insist on rummaging through my music. Another is someone who repeatedly insists on programming by requesting music, which clearly no one else will enjoy or relate to. - For example, Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" is a great song to hear on your car radio, but would clear the dance floor quickly if played right after "Play that Funky music" or a disco song. My music is about good times and has a positive feel about it. Lastly, individuals who don't understand that each event has it's own flow & pace. You can't force people to have a good time unless they are ready and the time is right. That takes timing and the right mix of music and timing. That's why you have me.

D-7 Do you drink alcohol while entertaining at the event?
MY Response:
NO! Absolutely NOT! - I don't even want the appearance of losing control. I value my integrity.

D-8 Do you charge a travel fee?
MY Response: No (with in the SF Bay Area). - And. I am reasonable if a travel fee is applicable.

D-9 When do you arrive at your jobs? How much time do you need to set up?
MY Response: Generally one hour to an hour and a half prior to start time. I like to become familiar with the location. Additionally, I will interact with your other hired professionals to ensure that we are all on the same page - namely your complete satisfaction.

D-10 Can you send me a sample of your video work?
MY Response: Unfortunately I can't do this any more. In the past competitors have been caught having me send out my video demo to fake names and multiple addresses. I am aware that information about my talents and peripheral services have been used to teach the DJ's at other larger companies and booking agencies. DUE TO THESE REASONS - My Video Demo is available only by appointment.

D-11 What type of equipment do you use and what format of music do you play?
MY Response: I take the pride in the quality of my sound and lighting. My equipment is heavy-duty professional grade "touring equipment" which is more than road worthy (Rane, Sennheiser, Shure, JBL, Yamaha, Electro Voice, QSC, Denon, NSI and Elation.) My speakers weigh 139Lbs each. Any DJ that says their lighter speaker is just as good or better is probably a liar. My amps put out 1,500 Watts Mono or 750 Watts each channel/stereo - 4 Ohm Load. My lighting is far superior to 99% of the DJ's in the market place. I play compact disc (CD) only.

D-12 Which is better, a band or a disc jockey?
MY Response: A tough one! However I have great insight! My background is in live music. From my point of view there is no band that can keep up with my entertainment values for less than $3,500.00.
Also, there are great bands and fabulous disc jockeys. Conversely, there are crummy bands and even worse disc jockeys! - If Carlos Santana, Bob Segar, CC Music Factory, Mary J. Blige, The Rolling Stones, or Pink can't make it to your party, I would go with a great disc jockey!
--
Do your research! -- Take your time! -- Meet at least 3 to 4 DJ's!

D-13 Can you refer other professionals? (Photographers, Videographers, Caterers, Ministers, Ceremony and Reception facilities)?

Section - E - Prices & What it includes.

E-1 How do I reserve/hold you as the DJ for my date?
MY Response:
By placing a booking fee. ($200.00 to $300.00) which reserves your date & my services. And, signing a agreement with me as to the terms of the event.

E-2 How much do you charge and what do the costs cover?
MY Response:
Jeff's fees cover a free consultation meeting, travel time, setup/ teardown, proper attire for the event, professional grade quality sound, and a wireless microphone. NOTE: Just my basic package includes a level of service and expertise that is not equaled by any other DJ in my area.

E-3 Do you have cordless Mic's? MY Response: Yes ( No extra charge).

E-4 Do you take breaks?
MY Response:
No. However, if your event exceeds 6 hours I might sneak a break (Usually I put a long song in). I become human for a few minutes - You gotta' eat and go to the bathroom right? - But, I do manage to keep the music flowing. (Pardon the pun)

E-5 How many hours should I book you for?
MY Response:
Industry standard is for any DJ to entertain for (4) hours. Though it is not etched in stone, you can use it as a benchmark as to how long you will need the hall. If in doubt, we can talk about it.

E-6 Do you charge a travel fee? MY Response: NO (if with in the SF Bay Area)

E-7 Do you charge for set up time?
COMMENTARY: It is pretty much a standard in the DJ industry - There are no additional fees for set up time or breakdown time for a "basic show".
MY Response: I don't charge for Set-up time for a "basic show".

E-8 What happens if my event runs longer than expected?
MY Response:
No problem - Just ask me to provide overtime services. The rate per hour will be stipulated in our agreement so you know exactly what to expect. No surprises! NOTE: For Daytime events I can stay "pending my availability". This will be discussed at our consultation.

E-9 When should I pay you? MY Response: A booking fee of $200.00 to $300.00 holds your date. Payment in full can be made prior to or the day of your event. If overtime is needed you can pay me at the event.

E-10 How should I pay you? MY Response: In check, cash or money order.

E-11 Is my booking fee refundable? MY Response: If you break the contract, no. (Unless I can book another event at the same price) ( If I break the contract, yes. Only one of these since 1986.)

E-12 Do you take emergency bookings? MY Response: Yes!

E-13 Are we supposed to give a tip to the DJ? MY Response: Keep in mind that I am giving a service and an assortment of talents to you. For those of you whom are really hurting I won't hold it against you and I won't be insulted if no tip is given. If you feel that I did a great job at least let me know. Shake my hand and just say thanks. Then remember me when your friends or employer needs a great DJ.
If you can afford it, and realize that I went the extra 100 yards to make your event a wonderful time to be cherished, then please do tip me. It would be greatly appreciated. Tips usually range from $20.00 to $100.00. (My biggest tip was $300.00 - they really needed me!)

E-14 Is there sales tax charge on DJ/Entertainment?
MY Response:
No, There are no sales taxes for "services". Sales Taxes only apply to goods sold. Retail items, Gas, Real Estate, etc. So, if any DJ should try to charge you sales tax. DO NOT BOOK THEM! - Call your "State Tax Board" or "Board of Equalization" and report them.

Remember - It's the Driver that wins the race, not the machine.

I never fail to pack the dance floor.©

About Bidding or Quoting
- It's unfair TO YOU if other DJ's charge the same; YET, offer far less than Jeff !
...........If they are bidding less they are offering less! Does anybody want to lay cash on it?
That's why I have a video demo available. “Taste it before you buy it”.
I'm one of the best Entertainers available in California & I'll prove it if necessary. I will pay any one $100.00(for 2 hours of your time) if you can show me any one whom can match my services, skills, talent & equipment. All they have to do is pass a 75 question. If any other DJ can pass my test I’ll increase your $100 to $1,000.00 if they pass each question on my comparison test at my office. And, I'll pay the DJ $50 if he can pass my comparison test too. Just think if I’m an idiot? I’ll have to pay you $1,050 to admit it.
